Gall bladder removal (or Cholecystectomy)

Yesterday I had my full of stones gallbladder removed. I have been worried about the need for a general anaesthetic for over 16 years since the last one I had. That time, as I was woken up from the anaesthesia, I had a Laryngospasm which was the most frightening thing I've ever experienced. It truly was horrific trying to breathe with a completely closed off windpipe. Thankfully it lasted only a few seconds but it stayed with me all those years. Yesterday that fear went! I was totally reassured by the anaesthetist that although it does happen rarely, they know how to deal with it if it becomes an emergency. I'm so pleased to report that I woke up very smoothly and now no longer have that fear.

I had my operation at the private Spire Fylde Coast Hospital funded by the NHS. Talk about 5 star treatment! I was made to feel relaxed and cared for from the moment I stepped out of my car, to the moment I stepped back into it 10 hours later.

I had a fair bit of pain under my right ribs in the night and was very uncomfortable, but today hasn't been too bad. I'm just glad it's out and look forward to being in much less pain than I have been for the past couple of years.

And home ♥
